This article is about minor burn treatments – burns that are first degree or superficial second degree that damages only the outer layer of the skin. These common burns are not chemical or electrical, but resulting from splatters of boiling water or cooking oil or hot steam from the pot. In these cases when you don’t need to seek a professional treatment, it’s better to be prepared in advance and have a ready-made solution at home. This article will suggest the first step of treatment and another 2 minor burn treatments using natural ingredients only.
How to Naturally Treat Burns
As a first step it’s important to cool the burnt skin area to reduce further skin damage. So first of all pour cold water onto the burnt skin for few minutes until the affected skin area has completely cooled, gently pat dry and then use whichever of the following treatments you have available:
1. Apply pure aloe vera gel to cool the burnt skin area and prevent infections. Aloe vera treats burns by healing the skin’s epithelium, generously replacing the moisture that was lost and providing the skin with antioxidants, which speed up recovery.
2. Apply raw honey to the burnt area. The honey will help the skin to heal. It’s best to apply Manuka honey which has antibacterial component in higher concentration in comparison to other types of honey.
3. Lavender essential oil can be used on a burn to promote skin healing and prevent infection. Gently massage a few drops of the essential oil diluted in a teaspoon of base oil (like olive oil or coconut oil) into the affected skin area to promote healing.
After choosing one of these first aid treatments, apply the burn recovery oil blend (recipe below). You can bandage the area or leave it exposed, but you need to protect it from further skin damage.
